Our Services

David Brewster Consultants provide advice that meets the business requirements of clients and suits their personal style.

Services include:

  • Contract farming is an arrangement between a farmer, or land owner, and a contractor who takes over the day to day management of the business. The contract farming service provided by David Brewster Consultants is performance based. David Brewster Consultants will run and manage farming businesses to match the personal and business goals / objectives of the business owner. The service offered can apply to the day to day management of an individual enterprise or to the whole business.

Farmers who are happy with their farming system but you want someone else to manage it for you the fee based Farm and Estate Management service may suit them better.

The Contract Farming service depends on the knowledge and expertise of David Brewster Consultants to make the majority of the decisions. Contract farming clients can take the risk out of farming, by earning a fixed income from the farm without the responsibility of daily management.

Clients who want to be more involved may prefer a partly fixed, partly variable agreement. David Brewster is happy to discuss all options with potential clients. To discuss your contract farming needs contact David Brewster Consultants.

  • The annual paperwork associated with IACS and SAF has become increasingly complicated, due to the growing number of subsidy schemes dependent on the annual form. Acting as an agent on your behalf, David Brewster can fill in your IACS/SAF application. David Brewster Consultants will ensure that your business claims the maximum subsidy payment which it is eligible for.

For your peace of mind, David Brewster Consultants has £2 Million of professional indemnity insurance. If your needs are greater than this, contact David Brewster to discuss. Appointments will be held across Scotland.

To discuss your individual needs call David Brewster Consultants.

  • David Brewster Consultants prepares business and agri-environmental scheme applications.

A major part of all AECS applications is the assessment score.

We will assess all applications at the initial stage and give advice on how to improve the chances of success. This is done for FREE and then the client is given a quote to complete the application.

The fee for an application can be either fixed or partly fixed/partly variable. It is all up to the client.

AECS applications are prepared on a first come, first served basis. To discuss your AECS requirements, contact David Brewster Consultants.

  • The Whole Farm Review Scheme has now been superseded by the Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP). The Whole Farm review scheme provided an assessment of the current farming business and provided options for clients to choose the way forward for their business. The advice given is tailored to the specifics of an individual farming business and is a useful health check.

If you are familiar with the Whole Farm Review scheme the Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP) is similar but there is a larger amount of funding available.

For further information on the benefits of the Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP) call David Brewster Consultants.

  • Budgeting and cash flow planning helps clients to see where their businesses are going. This process can highlight any short falls in cash flow and identify potential problems at an early stage. Successful businesses plan their success by preparing budgets and cash flows. To discuss your budgeting and cash flow needs contact David Brewster Consultants

  • David Brewster Consultants can prepare the records for client farms to comply with NVZ legislation in the four Scottish NVZ areas - Lothian and Borders NVZ, Strathmore and Fife NVZ, Moray, Aberdeenshire / Banff & Buchan NVZ and Lower Nithsdale NVZ. Accurate NVZ records will ensure that your business does not risk losing your Single Farm Payment (SFP) or other subsidies from inadequate record keeping.

To discuss your NVZ requirements call David Brewster Consultants

  • Farm Diversification helps farmers to bring additional, non-agricultural income into the business. These ventures can, in some cases, make productive use of otherwise redundant resources. They provide a diversified income, which supports the farm by spreading risk. To discuss your needs regarding farm diversification, call David Brewster Consultants.

  • Farm and Estate Management is similar to the Contract Farming service provided. It differs in that David Brewster Consultants will manage your farm or estate according to the system currently in place. The fee for the service is not performance based. If clients wish to alter their farm or estate management systems, David Brewster Consultants is happy to do this on a performance basis. For more information on performance management of your farm see Contract Farming.

  • Nutrient Management Planning is an important part of cereal, vegetable and pastoral farming operations. In recent years, rising fertiliser prices have made it vitally important to ensure all fertiliser use is carefully scrutinised. Nutrient management planning ensures that the optimum level of fertiliser is used, reducing fertiliser costs and improving profitability.

To discuss your nutrient management planning needs contact David Brewster Consultants.

  • David Brewster Consultants is able to provide a soil analysis service for clients. We are able to process samples within 7 days. A standard analysis is soil pH, Phosphate*, Potash*, Magnesium* and Sulphur*. Note elements with a * are the levels of nutrients available. These can either be analysed by the Modified Morgan or by the Olsen P methods. There are different preferred methods of analysis for different areas of Scotland.

If you supply the proposed crop for the next harvest year we can also advise you on the fertiliser recommendation for this crop and this is currently included in the fee.

If you are interested in this service, please let us know and we will send you instructions on how to collect your samples, if required, and to arrange for the samples to be picked up.

  • Farmers need accurate information about the nutritional values of their silage, so testing this regularly can mean that rations are used as effectively as possible.

We are now providing a silage analysis service for clients. We get the results back within a week and can do a full mineral analysis of the silage. Please contact us for details of how to get your silage collected and sent off for analysis.
